Combination of reliability groth models and support of their industrial applicability

After an elaboration of the theoretical basics of the reliability and the reliability growth models an operational profile for the software of the industrial partner, Siemens Audiologische Technik GmbH, was developed. To determine the operational profile a questionnaire was elaborated and a survey with 28 acousticians in the franconian area was conducted. The operational profile was elaborated taking into account this survey.

Because of this profile and the conditions at the Siemens Audiologische Technik GmbH the apparently most adequate reliability growth models for this software were chosen and three models were proposed for combination. Recommendations for combinations of leading researchers of this area were considered. The system test staff at the Siemens Audiologische Technik GmbH was instructed to guide the system test according to the operational profile.

The failure data and the test time were documented. To document the test time a tool was implemented. Subsequently a combination of reliability growth models was built, using an evolutionary algorithm. The theory of this technique was also presented.

Some reliability growth models and tools for the application of reliability growth models were examined. The tool CASRE was chosen for application. Software reliability growth models were chosen for a combination. An evolutionary algorithm was implemented in a visual test script and CASRE was run by the test script. The received data was compared to the results of the single reliability growth models and other combinations.
